A devil once slipped among the pious monks of the Capuchin monastery and entered service as a kitchen boy. After the old cook died, he became head cook and began tempting the monks into drinking and debauchery. One day a fellow devil flew in to ask how he was doing. The abbot overheard them by chance and exorcised both. They turned into snakes and slithered out hissing. Freed of their infernal schemes, the monks became twice as devout.
