Bruntál · STORY FROM THE ATLAS

A Case of Vampirism

An extremely troubling affair is recorded here in 1651. A vampire was terrorising the town, and its grave was identified. On the authorities’ orders, a summoned executioner beheaded the exhumed corpse; blood supposedly poured from the head as he did so. Some inhabitants of the town, then a commandery of the Teutonic Order, were so frightened by the event that they preferred to move away.
