The Devil’s Book

The famous Codex giganticus was created in the former Benedictine monastery, destroyed by the Hussites in 1421, on whose site St Margaret’s Church now stands. It was also called the Devil’s Book, after an illustration of the Devil with a forked tongue and long claws on his hands and feet. The book was one metre tall and half a metre wide. During the Thirty Years’ War it was taken to Stockholm.
