In a meadow near Hartoušov, now part of Nebanice, a bubbling spring sounds like spinning. Legend says a whole farm sank here with its godless mistress, who did not honour Sunday and spun yarn instead of attending devotions. Elsewhere is a spring where an old woman’s ghost sits at night, jumps onto passers-by’s backs and makes them carry her to the nearest crossroads. She was allegedly cursed here by a hermit whom she disturbed while he meditated beside the spring. J. V. Grohmann tells the story in his Czech Legends.
