According to legend, during the Hussite period the townspeople melted their jewellery into golden hens, chicks and eggs and buried them in their cellars. Blue flames were said to reveal the treasures. It is still claimed that some could remain hidden, especially beneath houses on the north side of Mírové Square, in house no. 3 in Jezuitská Street, and in Vojtěšská Street, which later underwent considerable changes.
