A forest spirit, the giant Kober, is said to have lived in the woods of the Teplá–Loket Highlands around Kynžvart. He was a counterpart of Rýbrcoul in the Krkonoše Mountains. He had his lair near the former settlement of Smrkovec. He was accompanied by the Wild Hunt, and local children were frightened with stories of him.
