Kutná Hora · STORY FROM THE ATLAS

The Foundation of Sedlec Monastery

The Cistercian monastery founded in 1143 by Miroslav of Markvartice is associated with a story about Bishop Daniel, administrator of the Prague diocese, who once rested here. He had a vision at this place, also confirmed by witnesses who saw a little white bird—an angel—fly into his mouth and emerge again a moment later. The bishop ordered a monastery to be built on the spot.
