The Language of Birds

The Church of St Barbara is Europe’s easternmost cathedral-type church. Peter Parler’s workshop took part in its design. One chapel contains a large late-15th-century mural depicting St Christopher, the gold-bearer or Chrysophoros. In the choir, between the pillars of the last northern bay, a section of the attic bears emblems of the Joyful Science: a sculptural group of a jester and two grotesque figures dating from 1506.
