Klatovy · STORY FROM THE ATLAS

Secrets of the surrounding hills

Near Klatovy is a hill called Pernet or Parnet, where nothing supposedly grows. A giant serpent-like monster, probably a dragon, once lived there, tormenting the region and eating livestock. Eventually local people felled trees halfway up the hill and set them alight. The monster burned to death, but nothing has grown on the summit since. Treasures are also said to be hidden on Klatovská hůrka (495 m), west above town.
