Charles IV once invited knights to fight the devils hindering the castle's construction. None found the courage, until a simple shepherd outwitted them. Since then his ghost appears near the castle with a great ram. The creature is strange, more like a large pig in soft fleece with huge legs. The shepherd wears old-fashioned sandals and a misshapen hat over his white head. On a stout rope he leads the distorted ram behind him. He appears throughout the year, grazing the monster in moonlight until morning. He guards the hidden Karlštejn treasure.
