The shepherd spirit Hohohé

In the forests near the marshes a shepherd spirit appears at night, frightening late travellers with the terrible cry ‘hohohé’. German legends also called him Seehirt, Sinhirt or Moosbruchhirt. He is usually good-natured but sometimes mischievous. He appears with a whip, wearing linen drawers and a waistcoat, a bread bag at his side. At other times he takes the form of a fisherman or other shapes. He haunts chiefly the mossy pools of Rejvíz. (See Rejvíz.)
