At the end of the fifteenth century, the important humanist Bohuslav Hasištejnský of Lobkovice assembled his great library and astronomical instruments here. After returning from overseas, he established a renowned cultural centre of European importance. Old accounts also mention “alchemical kitchens” beneath the castle.
