Alchemists worked here under Petr Vok of Rožmberk. For the year 1592, the Rožmberk chronicler Březan records: “On 15 May, a certain hypocrite, an emaciated distiller, who had earlier been recommended to the lord at Bechyně by his like, was dismissed from the court that day and went over to the Anabaptists. That notorious fraudulent master died as a prisoner at the castle of Český Krumlov.”
