The Black Princess’s Strange Funeral

After her death, the ghost of the Black Princess appeared here: the kind and charitable Kateřina Zdeňka, wife of Emerich Forgáč, lord of Trenčín. Legends speak of her goodness and unusual burial. Four bulls drew her body from the château on a plain wagon. Wherever they stopped of their own accord, a grave was dug according to her last wishes. A church soon rose above it and a village called Kostelec was founded. Her ghost, in priestly robes, often appeared at the altar, and at night people saw her walking through the château with a bunch of keys.
